Democratic People’s Republic of Korea?
Who thought that name up? Simply put, it symbolizes North (Communist) Korea. I think democracy is the farthest thing from their minds. You have to ask if this government really knows what it’s doing? wassat

So what is with this mentality? N. Korea is open to negotiations, and then they aren’t… They don’t have nuclear weapons, or perhaps they do…

This is a very obvious sign of the insecurity and stability of the North Korean government. Kim Jong Il should step down and let someone with more common sense into power. How does a man get the idea that they can lie to and then bully a superpower? Clinton made concessions to Il while he was in office, and the psychopath blew it! angry

If N. Korea will not concede then the US should tell them to ‘piss off!’ Enough playing around with a two-bit crook for a government leader…

Han Sung Ryol, a senior N. Korea diplomat from the U.N. delegation was quoted as saying: “We have no other option but to regard the United States refusal to have direct dialogue with us as an intention not to recognize us and to eliminate our system.

Screw you Han, and your government. Let your people go! tongue

According to Newsweek (and they are not alone) there is a looming threat that lies behind the scenes – in places you can’t see or hear. It will come at the speed of light, and you may not know it has hit until it’s too late.

Since the turn of the century it has been demonstrated that hackers, when organized, can wreak havoc on unprotected systems. The 2001 Chinese-US confrontation due to the landing of a US plane on Chinese soil is an example, when hackers on both sides of the ocean took turns defacing websites, primarily of the others’ governments. The same kind of attacks took place a year before, in a Palestine/Israel cyber conflict. In this case it was believed that the attack caused the local economies to deteriorate.

Now Islamic extremists are posting on web sites a means for their followers to perform ‘acts of terror’ without putting themselves in harms way. It’s what is commonly referred to as ‘cyber terrorism,’ and most computers that are connected to the Internet are vulnerable. Many are just completely defenseless.

What are the targets? Realistically ideal targets would include power plants, banks – basically your economic, utility and military infrastructures. However you cannot exclude any computer, since a properly/secretly placed trojan horse (virus) can cause a home computer to act as an online warrior for someone to begin remote attacks from.

What it boils down to is that, quite simply, we will experience this ‘cyber war’ at some point. Ultimately it will be a matter of who is better prepared and protected to fend off such a virtual invasion. The US government has been trying for years to secure the nations network infrastructure, but all of the analysts continue to report that it is ineffective.

Is your computer protected? Are your networks? It’s just a matter of time…

You would think that, at this point in time, people could live with being who they are – as well the idea that others also make the same choice. Now it’s common knowledge that not everyone likes or beleives in our way of life, so why push it?

Now George Bush is a man with big ideas, but seems to also have a very narrow perspective on how others feel. Granted, it’s doubtful that people in Iraq wanted to live under the reign of Saddam, but now he’s telling Iran that they are “on notice?”

Are we (the American people) looking for a cruisade? I’m not! I think we have enough to worry about at home, not to mention the fact that we’ve already done a fair job of alienating many of our allies, while other countries now sit and wonder what the bullying super power is going to do next.

President Bush – just because you can do a thing does not necessarily mean that you should. People just don’t share our values on a global scale.

In the meantime we have economic issues to deal with. The options you offer with Social Security will not be effective while the dollar remains low, not to mention it will raise problems for a large portion of the current workforce as they reach retirement.

The bottom line is this: the State of the Union Address should have simply stated that when Iraq ia stable we are done fighting with the exception of locating known terrorists. Other than that our people come home.
